* find, set and protect a time for daily practice at home
* determine a good neat & clean space in your home where practicing will be * do not expect the child - until middle school - to know what to practice * take notes and write down a few reminders mentioned in the lesson * bring a dedicated composition book to lessons for note taking in addition to the 3 ring binder for practice charts * despite elation over a new instrument, be prepared for pushback * prepare yourself for this feeling and make the decision to ride the waves of discomfort and adjustment for a certain length of time (I recommend two years) or until solid technique is established and students can play |
